GU10 and MR16 track lights and housings
Lamp-based track heads are the flexible end of the range. The head holds a GU10 or MR16 lamp, so output, colour temperature and beam can change with the lamp instead of the fixture. We make both as complete lights and as housings without lamps, and we keep the two apart on every quote.

GU10 track lights
GU10 is a twist-lock base, and it suits projects where lamps will be replaced by the end user or the store team. A GU10 head is mechanically simple: holder, body, tilt joint and track adapter. That simplicity is the point.
A retailer can change a lamp's colour temperature for a new season without touching the track, and a distributor can pair one body with several lamp options. Complete GU10 heads ship with the lamp fitted and included; GU10 housings ship empty, with no lamp supplied.

MR16 track lights
MR16 heads take an MR16 lamp and are often chosen for low ceilings and display cases close to eye level. Lamp base, head dimensions and the supply arrangement differ between models, so we confirm all three for the exact head rather than assuming them for the format. MR16 is traditionally a low-voltage lamp format, so the supply arrangement inside or ahead of the head has to suit both the lamp and the track.
We confirm those details per model, together with the rail, before an MR16 head is quoted. It's the one place in the lamp-based range where a quick check saves a costly mismatch.

Housings and bodies
A housing is the head without its lamp: lamp holder, body, tilt and rotation joint, and the adapter that locks into the rail. Lighting brands buy housings to pair with lamps they already source or certify; wholesalers buy them to offer one body with a choice of lamps.
A housing order is a different line item from a complete light, priced and specified on its own. When you order housings, tell us which lamps you plan to fit. The holder, the space inside the body and the supply arrangement all have to suit the lamp, and we'd rather catch a mismatch on paper than at your warehouse.

GU10 or MR16: deciding between them
| GU10 | MR16 | |
|---|---|---|
| Lamp base | Twist-lock | Confirmed per model |
| Head size | Confirmed per model | Confirmed per model |
| Supply | Confirmed per model against the track | Lamp-dependent; confirmed per model against the track |
| Forms | Complete light, housing | Complete light, housing |
| Often chosen for | Shops and homes that swap lamps | Display cases and low ceilings, where the model's size suits |
Both holders keep the lamp replaceable. The choice comes down to the dimensions of the specific model and which lamps your market stocks. Our buying guide to GU10, MR16 and COB track lights compares them with integrated COB heads in more depth.
Matching the head to the track
Lamp holder and track have to agree. The adapter must suit the rail's wire system (2, 3, 4 or 6-wire), and the head must suit the voltage on the track and the lamp it carries. Send us the rail details or a photo of an existing adapter and we'll confirm the match model by model. We don't infer dimming from the wire count; dimming is confirmed per model and per project.
Confirm at enquiry
For complete heads we confirm every field below. For housings, the light-source fields follow the lamp you fit, and we confirm the body, joint, adapter and warranty.

CE, RoHS or UL marking is per model: check the spec sheet for the exact head rather than assuming a whole series carries it.
